@jonny I would still love to read your blog post about the Claude source code.
@be i am trying to be on hiatus from reading things i hate so much, it is something i feel like i should do, it just takes a very specific headspace to dig through dogshit.
though i have been collecting releases and have gotten the code in place to decompile and map symbols between versions so that i can do an actual diff between the leaked source and more recent versions, keeping the names from the leak. it's... total noise because everything is always totally rewritten, but that's part of the story i guess.
It cannot get better. Vance and the Palantinate are installed for that purpose, and Democrats are there to guarantee the simulacra of democracy continues, just as everythig else degrades even further.

After Trump took office in 2025, a technology industry friend I've known and respected for a long time flagged the naming of former Microsoft exec Doug Burgum as Interior Secretary as a sign that real grownups would be in top posts. Yeah, right.
Burgum has turned out to be one of the worst appointees. He is a total lackey for Trump, eager to adopt retrograde policies and lie through his teeth.
A notable example: lies that led to the outrageous indictment (later dismissed) of a former Olympian whom Burgum and his apparatchiks falsely claimed had damaged the Reflecting Pool on the National Mall. https://www.newsbreak.com/combat-rated-361333999/4804438997960-rep-ted-lieu-says-sec-doug-burgum-is-lying-about-olympian-david-hearn-after-doj-admits-reflecting-pool-failure-was-contractor-s-fault
A few weeks ago, I sent a note to the person who'd assured me that Burgum was an honorable and excellent person, asking (indirectly) if he'd reconsidered. I got no reply. Disappointing.
This Is For Everyone is now available in paperback.
You might recognise the face on the cover...a younger me at MIT in 1998 when 150 million people used the web. Today it's roughly 6 billion.

@gubi "tasted power" sounds so ominous.
Uhhh, somebody needs to do a wellness check on physics and the arrow of time. It might be broken.
I'm pretty sure this countdown said 100 days just a couple days ago
What tool, device, or software that you used a lot, but then disappeared from your life (or from the world), do you miss the most?
@Em0nM4stodon Macromedia Fireworks.
It didn't quite disappear, I still have it on an old laptop, but I can't update the OS without losing use of the software. But it's been years since I'veused it, just lamenting really.

hello hello guy who wrote about crypto for several years here, we don't have a smoking gun of money laundering in progress at Omarchy, but the Omarchy funding is the most money laundering coded thing i've seen this week
Australia is at a weird political point.
The coalition is laughable. The ALP has become the conservative party. One Nation is exploiting the angry and ill informed.
If The Greens can’t exploit this moment, just by selling their current policies, they’ll never become a major party.
@kentparkstreet1 it’s not just about policies. It’s also about engaging people in a conversation about how they take control of their future. People want their anger acknowledged and validated. You can have great policies, but if people feel that you’re not also representing how they feel about being ignored and overlooked, then you won’t get their vote. Gotta do both.

Thinking back to how why, the Lucky Stiff got a good long look behind the Ruby on Rails curtain and logged off forever
